Prevention Plus seeks to protect our Burlington
County residents from alcoholism, drug dependence and the myriad
of painful problems that accompany addiction. Reinforced with solid
research, concrete facts, and science based, proven programs, we
educate Burlington County students, professionals, workers, parents,
teachers and the general public. For individuals and families affected
by substance abuse we provide caring support with thoughtful guidance
to the agencies, facilities and services that are prepared and waiting
to help.
The following explains why our prevention services are so important:
- Alcohol-related highway deaths are the number one killer of
15-24 year-olds.
- Approximately 40% of child abuse cases and over 50% of domestic
violence incidents involve alcohol.
- For each chemically dependent person, an average of five other
people are negatively affected.
- Women ages 65 and older are the group most likely to consume
more than 2 drinks per day.
- Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, a pattern of physical and mental birth
defects, is the third leading cause of birth defects, and the
only one that is preventable.
- On college campuses, 95% of violent crime and 53% of all injuries
are alcohol related.
