Prevention Plus’s involvement in the community
can be enhanced by the services of volunteers.
The Communities Against Tobacco (CAT) Coalition includes representatives
from community based organizations such as youths and other concerned
citizens dedicated to reducing the number of youth who begin smoking,
reducing the exposure of the public to environmental tobacco smoke,
supporting programs that help adults and youth quit smoking and
providing tobacco prevention and control programs to diverse and
underserved populations.
REBEL (Reaching Everyone By Exposing Lies) is a county-wide youth
group which is a youth-led, youth-driven, anti-tobacco coalition
whose mission is to reach, educate and empower the youth of New
Jersey to make healthy lifestyle decisions and support non-smoking
norms.
Recovery advocacy organizations have sprung up across the state.
Part of a statewide initiative, “Friends of Recovery-New Jersey”,
is working to organize the recovery community so that people in
recovery, their family members, and other allies have a voice in
the public dialogue about addiction, treatment and recovery. Members
of the recovery need to come together and step forward. Help us
develop a voice and a face for the large number of individuals who
have been affected by the addictive illnesses of alcoholism and
drug dependence. Help us reduce the stigma that keeps alcoholics
and other drug-dependent individuals ant their families from receiving
the help they need. To join others to work toward ensuring that
our society sees addiction treatment and recovery as positive efforts,
please let your voice be heard.
